02 / From idea to upload
Preparing your
DXF drawing
A few checks before uploading help you get the part you intended. Keep the drawing focused on the geometry you want cut.
01 Draw at full size
Export a DXF at 1:1 in millimetres. Reopen it and measure a known dimension to check the scale.
02 Clean the cut paths
Use closed outlines for the profile and holes. Remove dimensions, notes, duplicate lines and unused geometry.
03 Check small features
Compare hole, slot and overall part sizes with the limits for your chosen material and thickness.
04 Review the preview
After uploading, check the displayed shape and dimensions. Resolve drawing warnings before placing your order.

Ordering after a prototype
If you revise hole positions, dimensions or thickness after a prototype, upload and quote the revised drawing. Check the file and specification again before ordering the next batch.

Can I order just one laser-cut part?
Yes. Upload your DXF, STEP or STP file and set the quantity to one. The minimum order is £20. We are not VAT registered, so we do not charge VAT. You can see the price for your chosen material and thickness before ordering.
Can you quote from a sketch or photograph?
The quote page accepts DXF drawings and suitable sheet-metal STEP/STP models. For JPG, PNG, SVG, PDF or DWG, use Drawing Workshop to prepare and check your cutting drawing. Images need a sharp black shape on white; photographs with perspective or shadows are not suitable. See the File preparation & repairs for examples.
How much does a one-off part cost?
The price depends on your drawing, material, thickness, quantity and selected options. Uploading your actual file gives you a price for the part you want to make.
What finish and tolerance should I expect?
Parts are supplied flat. Metal parts are deburred; acrylic is CO₂ laser cut and does not need deburring. We do not offer bending. Our usual cutting tolerance is ±0.2 mm, but larger parts or complex geometry can vary more. Check critical fits before ordering. Read our quality and tolerances guide.
Can I order more after trying the first part?
Yes. Review saved quotes and past orders in your account, check the specification and current price, and order again. If the design has changed, upload the revised file for a new quote.
What should I do if I need parts by a particular date?
Production is normally 1–2 days when material is in stock, followed by next-day delivery after dispatch. Waiting for stock material can extend production. Check with us before ordering if you have a deadline. See our delivery information for how dispatch and delivery are handled.
