When to choose aluminium
Aluminium is a useful option for lightweight panels, covers, spacers and enclosure profiles. It weighs less than a steel part of the same size. Changing material also changes stiffness and how the part behaves, so check that it still meets your design requirements.

Need a particular grade or type?
The alloy is the type of aluminium; the temper describes how it has been treated. Both affect strength and suitability for bending or welding. If your drawing specifies an alloy or temper, send us the details so we can check availability before ordering.
Hole sizes, part sizes and fit
Our usual cutting tolerance is ±0.2 mm: the finished size can be slightly larger or smaller than the drawing. Larger parts or complex shapes can vary more. If a hole or edge must fit another part precisely, discuss it with us before ordering. The table shows the smallest holes and slots we can cut; a hole for a bolt or pin may need to be larger to give the right fit.

Check the width and height of the whole part, including any tabs sticking out. Check each hole in the preview too. These values match our design guide; your quote confirms the current limits for the selected material and thickness.
Surface finish and cut edges
The sheet face and laser-cut edge have different appearances. Handling marks can matter on a visible panel, particularly if it is supplied without a coating. Tell us about surfaces that will be visible, intended finishing and any protective-film requirement before ordering.
Deburring is included: we remove burrs from the metal edges. If you need a particular edge shape, finish or precise fit, tell us before ordering. Our quality and tolerances guide explains what to check.
Textured powder coating is available for eligible metal parts. Check the colours and options shown in your quote.
From your file to your part
- Prepare a clean, full-size DXF in millimetres, or a suitable sheet-metal STEP/STP model.
- Choose aluminium, an available thickness and your quantity.
- Check the preview, any warnings, your selected options and the price before ordering.
If your drawing has gaps, duplicate lines or the wrong size, open File Workshop to check the problem and any proposed repair. Then choose Save and continue to quote.
Single parts welcome. The minimum order is £20, and we do not charge VAT because we are not VAT registered.
For stocked material, production is normally 1–2 days. Delivery is next day after dispatch. If we are waiting for material, production takes longer; read the delivery guide and check with us before ordering to a fixed deadline.
Aluminium questions
Can I order a 3 mm aluminium plate?
Yes: 3 mm is one of the listed aluminium thicknesses, alongside 1, 1.5 and 2 mm. Use the table above to check features and overall size. If you need a particular alloy or plan to bend the part later, check those requirements with us before ordering.
Which aluminium alloy do you stock?
Ask us to confirm the alloy for your chosen thickness if your design requires one. Include any temper requirement from your drawing.
Can my aluminium part be powder coated?
Coating is available on supported metal jobs. Check the options in your quote and discuss the intended finish before ordering if it is critical.
Can I upload a folded aluminium STEP model?
Suitable sheet-metal models can be prepared as flat cutting drawings. We do not offer bending: your parts are supplied flat and deburred, so plan forming separately.
